There are fuel management functions (just based on fuel flow), performance functions (if the performance database for your aircraft is available and installed) radio tuning including NAV auto-tuning, VOR and DME interfaces to use as alternate means of determining position, Transponder ELS input (Flight number) and on and on. There are many more installation specific functions that not all aircraft utilize. Later software versions include temperature correction for VNAV, the capability to display and control TAWS and AFIS. There is also an MMMS (Multi Mission Management System) version that adds search capabilities. The latest 1000 series software includes WAAS based RNAV approaches. The UNS series isn't all that difficult to operate but be aware that there are several different software levels that provide different capabilities.
